Living Spaces LLC - Custom Home Design & Build is a most unique entity amongst custom
home builders here in Tucson. It is hard to say at first just what makes
this company so unique, but within a short period of talking with the principals,
Paul Hubble and Deborah Kauffeld, it quickly becomes obvious. Perhaps
it is their enthusiasm for their work or they way they work together but what
is quickly apparent is that working with them is anything but business as usual.
This is going to be an experience that will be most enjoyable and not
like some of the nightmares that one hears about from some who have built custom
homes. Living Spaces is Paul Hubble and Deborah Kauffeld. Paul is the business brains of the operation with an MBA in business management. This alone is unusual in the construction industry. Not only is he able to use his business background to help keep the project running smoothly and within budget, but his ten plus years of construction experience helps him to be creative with solutions to any issues that may arise during the course of construction. One quickly gets the impression that Paul knows what he is doing and, as a customer making what may be the biggest investment of their life, one feels a sense of relief knowing that Paul is managing the job. Deborah, on the other hand, has less experience in the building industry although she has built her own home and a later large addition to it as well as designing another home that was never built. She knows first hand what it is like to build a custom home and what makes for a pleasant building experience - and, perhaps more importantly - what doesn't. Deborah's background is not as obvious of an asset as Paul's - that is until you think about it for a little while. She has spent over ten years in private practice as a psychotherapist. Of course, the joke could be made that anyone deciding to build a house is crazy and needs a psychotherapist but that is not the case with Living Spaces. And, to be sure, her skills in working with people are quickly evident but her real value is in her ability to read situations - what a client really wants in their living space, how a home "feels", and an overriding ability to just be in tune with the building experience. However, it is the obvious synergy between Paul and Deborah that really makes Living Spaces what it is. Here are two people who enjoy their work and working with each other. They have an obvious passion and enthusiasm which is contagious. From this point they are then able to work with their customer and help them to find exactly what they want from their home design and how to go about achieving it. The customer actually becomes an important part of this synergy and together they collaborate on the home building journey. Never is the customer made to feel unimportant; in fact the exact opposite is true - the customer is most definitely an integral part of the whole process. But perhaps the most glaringly apparent fact that makes Living Spaces so unique has not even been touched upon just yet - the fact that there is the wonderful blending of male and female energy and perspective, something rarely seen in the building industry. Women typically are the real home buyers yet most homes are designed and built solely by men. A woman closely examining most homes will know instantly if a woman has been consulted or not - and too often she has not been consulted. Designs are too often from the male perspective alone. Clearly, there is nothing wrong with the male perspective, but it needs to be balanced with the female perspective to achieve a home that is truly appealing to both. In Living Spaces, what is found is a creative balance between the male and female energies that is almost unheard of in the industry. But even more important is the fact that in Paul and Deborah's interactions, there appears to be none of the bickering that can appear in many relationships; instead, their appears to be a mutual respect for each other's opinions, something that is also extended to the homebuilder. Clearly this is a relationship that a prospective homebuilder might actually have to get used to since it is so rare, but something that one would gladly do. Working with Living Spaces is a unique experience that can not only bring you a beautiful home, but will also allow you to smile throughout the process, resting comfortably with the knowledge that they are being well taken care of and that their dream home is actually becoming a reality. |
